COMMON REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR A FULL TIME BACHELOR OF LAWS (LL.B.)
IN THE UNITED KINGDOM:

In the United Kingdom, a law degree is commonly referred to as a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). This law degree is considered an undergraduate bachelor degree, which means that prospective students can apply directly after the completion of high school or its equivalent.
Before applying to a particular LL.B. program, the prospective student needs to refer to the admission policies of the university of interest. Students need to ensure that they have the appropriate or relevant subjects that is outlined by the university admission.
The following are the common entry requirements for LL.B. program in the United Kingdom:.

  • A Level: AAA or above
  • International Baccalaureate: 38 or above

 

    • (LL.B. schools in the United Kingdom would also accept other qualifications from overseas countries. Candidates are invited to check with the individual law school of interest for the specific reference)
  • Law National Admissions Tests (LNAT).

 

  • English language requirements (for UK students, a minimum of grade C or grade 4 in GCSE English, or an equivalent qualification; for EU and international students, IELTS 7 or above)

COMMON REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR A FULL TIME BACHELOR OF LAWS (LL.B.)
IN AUSTRALIA:

 

Most of Australian laws schools are equivalent to the United Kingdom system (i.e. Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) meaning that candidates can enroll as undergraduate students). It is important to note that few universities also offer JD program, which are post-graduate degree similar to the United States law schools.
The list below shows the common entry requirements for LL.B. programs but if you are looking for a JD program, you are invited to check with the individual law school of interest for the specific reference.

  • ATAR of 90 or higher
  • GCE A Levels: minimum of 12 points

 

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: total score of 33 points or higher
  • French Baccalaureate: Grade average of 14 or higher

 

    • (LL.B. schools in Australia would also accept other qualifications from overseas countries. Candidates are invited to check with the individual law school of interest for the specific reference)
  • English language requirements (for international students, IELTS 7 or above)

IN HONG KONG:

 

Laws schools in Hong Kong are undergraduate programs, meaning that a prospective student can apply for directly after obtaining a high school diploma or its equivalent.
The following are the usual entry requirements for LL.B. program in Hong Kong:

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: 30 points out of 45
  • GCE A-Level /International A-Level: passes in three GCE Advanced Level / International Advanced Level* subjects with CCC, not including any language subjects in English / Chinese

 

  • SAT Reasoning Test / ACT plus Writing and SAT Subject Test / Advanced Placement Test: (a) (i) An overall score of 1800 in the SAT Reasoning Test (prior to March 2016); (ii) An overall score of 1310 in the Redesigned SAT Reasoning Test with Essay (from March 2016), and a score of 6 in each of the three dimensions of the Essay (Reading, Analysis and Writing); or (iii) A composite score of 27 in ACT plus Writing; (b) (i) Grade 3 in each of the three subjects in Advanced Placement Test; or (ii) A score of 600 in each of the three subjects in SAT Subject Test

  • English language requirements (for international students, IELTS 6.5 or above)

COMMON REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR A FULL TIME JURIS DOCTOR (JD)
IN THE UNITED STATES:

 

In the United States, law schools are post-graduate programs meaning that a prospective student can apply only after obtaining a degree from a recognized University. Direct admission after obtaining a high school diploma or its equivalent is not possible.
1. Application

Each applicant must complete all sections of the relevant JD application. The application usually contains a section of questions relating to character and fitness to practice law.
2.  All Undergraduate and Graduate School Transcripts

Each applicant must provide all undergraduate and graduate school transcripts reflecting a complete history of your academic performance in his/her undergraduate education and at any graduate schools.
3.  Law School Admission Test

Unless a waiver is otherwise granted, all applicants are required to take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and submit a valid LSAT score. An LSAT score is considered valid if you received it within five years of the date of your application.
4.  Resume

A detailed resume is usually required containing applicant’s educational history, extracurricular activities, community and volunteer activities, and all full or part-time work experience, indicating precisely the time spent on each activity or employment position. 
5.  Letters of Recommendation and Evaluations

Two letters of recommendation are usually required. In reviewing letters of recommendation, the admissions committee is looking for insight into a candidate's academic promise, as well as personal qualities such as intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm, and commitment. It is advisable that an applicant submits at least one academic letter (e.g., from a professor, teacher's assistant, advisor) who can offer an informed assessment of the applicant’s academic ability.
6.  Personal Statement

The personal statement is an essential part of every application and it is an opportunity to introduce an applicant to the admissions committee. It should demonstrate the potential contribution the applicant will provide to the Law School community beyond simply academics results and should demonstrate the ability to communicate the applicant’s thoughts effectively.
7.  Application Fee

The application fee must be paid upon submission of the application.

COMMON REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR A FULL TIME A FULL TIME JURIS DOCTOR (JD) IN CANADA
In Canada, normally, law schools are post-graduate programs meaning that a prospective student can apply only after obtaining a degree from a recognized University. Direct admission after obtaining a high school diploma or its equivalent is not possible. (Note: Some do admit students with two years of undergraduate studies, candidates should check with the university)

 

The following procedure usually applies to both domestic and international applicants to JD/LL.B. schools in Canada. The admissions committee evaluates applicants on a continuous basis as each applicant's file is completed.

Documents required

  • Complete the relevant application of the preferred law school in Canada;
  • Official and original copies of all post-secondary academic transcripts; 

 

  • All Law School Admission Test (LSAT) scores; and
  • A personal statement (required) and additional essay (optional).

 

Application Fee
The application fee must be paid upon submission of the application.

COMMON REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR A FULL TIME BACHELOR OF LAWS (LL.B.)
IN SINGAPORE:

 

Laws schools in Singapore are undergraduate programs.  Prospective student can apply for directly after obtaining a high school diploma or its equivalent.
The following are the usual entry requirements for LL.B. program in Singapore:

  • For local applicants: Singapore-Cambridge A level: Good overall ‘A’ level results or at least B grade in H1 General Paper, or a good pass in H2 Knowledge & Inquiry (KI); or a minimum SAT Critical Reading / Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 700 accompanied by a minimum E grade for GP/KI
  • For international applicants: (Australia) ATAR of at least 90; (Hong Kong) at least four Level 3 Core subjects with a minimum of two elective subjects (CAT A and/ or CAT C subject), and English Level 4; (AQA, Cambridge, etc.) a good pass in at least 3 ‘Advanced’ Level subjects is required for candidates to submit an application. Many applicants submit good passes for  4 or more ‘Advanced’ Level subjects for our consideration; etc.

 

    • (LL.B. schools in Singapore would also accept other qualifications from overseas countries. Candidates are invited to check with the individual law school of interest for the specific reference)
  • English requirement: those who possess high school qualifications which are in the non-English medium are required to submit proof of their proficiency in the English language (for example, a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based) or IELTS score of 7.0)
